Algoraves are live electronic music parties where artists use algorithms and live coding to create and improvise music and visuals. The movement started in the UK in 2012 and has since grown into a global community, with events in cities such as London, Barcelona, Berlin, New York, Mexico City, Mumbai and Istanbul, among many others. Sound Days presents Latvia’s first Algorave, featuring performers from all across Europe and the Baltics.
Algoraves embrace the alien sounds of raves from the past, and introduce alien, futuristic rhythms and beats made through strange, algorithm-aided processes. While danceable music is the main focus of an Algorave, we will also present some performances focused more on sonic exploration at the beginning of the event. Live coders will often project their screens for the audience to follow the creative process – but feel free to disregard, just dance and have a good time!
